This Brings Back the Good Old Days.

Have you ever just sat around one afternoon and wondered where the time has went? Well, I have. After seeing this movie, it brought back memories from my good old days. I remember those times when I was sitting in a while listening to my stereo. With the chipmunk record on and the Christmas song would come out. I guess you could say that was one of my favorite Christmas songs when I was a kid. Now that I have children of my own. They look at me really funny when I put the record on the record player and play this song. Once they start listening to it they find out they actually like some kind of music that I did. So when this movie came out on DVD. I made it a mission to go out and purchase it. My kids were so happy when they saw me walking through the door and a new DVD in my hands. They have been looking forward to watching this movie. Since the time that I came walking through the door with this movie. They have watched it at least a dozen times over and over and over again. I don’t mind that though because it keeps them out of trouble, and I do not have to worry about any bad language. In this movie.

This movie is based on an out of work, songwriter David Seville (played by Jason Lee, you know the actor from my name is Earl show). He is struggling to write a hit song and takes his work into the sea a record producer Ian Hawke (played by David Cross), he is just the usual type of record producer that we all think of, they like to take advantage of the little guy. And of course we have the three chipmunks named Alvin, Theodore, and Simon. How they became to meet David Seville was when somebody came to the forest and chopped down the tree that they were living in, a Christmas tree in fact. They brought the tree to a shopping mall and set it up, not knowing that there was some live animals still living in it. Once they set the tree up, the chipmunks popped their heads out of the tree and noticed that their forest had been changed into a shopping mall. They were happy at first, until they tried to venture out into the mall and find some food. The next thing they know they saw Dave with a basket of food and jumped into it and off they went to Dave’s house. Dave’s mind was a little preoccupied since he was just turned down by the promoter. So they were able to jump into the basket and he was carrying them all the way home. Not knowing that he had brought the three Little chipmunks home with him. The chipmunks try and squeeze their way into Dave’s life, but he does not want to have anything to do with them first. But once he heard them saying he decided to let him into his life.

The next thing Dave had to do was try and explain to everybody that chipmunks to say, everyone thought that he was crazy. The antics that the chipmunks put him through made him look crazy, and he was always back stepping and trying to explain the strange happenings. He tried explaining things to his girlfriend Claire Wilson (played by Cameron Richardson). She was very upset with him and thought that he was a crazy. This is when chipmunks decided to go venture out into the world and try and make things right. As the movie goes on. They run into several different obstacles from Ian trying to take advantage and steal Alvin and the other chipmunks from Dave. Be in place an exceptional villain that will try to exploit the chipmunks as best he can. By overworking them and giving them coffee with the caffeine to keep them going to basically working them into the ground and making them exhausted. He keeps telling them stories about how Dave does not want them so that they will not want to go back to him.

Scenes
There are some funny parts in this movie, but some of them border from innuendo and you have to think a little to get what the joke is. There is a scene with one of the chipmunks and 80 dishwasher, taking a shower. When Dave opens the door they scream, this is a little comical and the kids enjoyed it a lot. Then they have a Christmas scene of course their first Christmas, and they are looking for all the toys. Then there is a scene where Ian gives them coffee. So that the caffeine will have an affect on them and keep them up and revive them. Another funny part is, while Davis sleeping, one of the chipmunks becomes afraid and wants to sleep in bed with him and ends up on Dave’s face. Just a few little scenes that will settle your fancy when you watch this.

Characters
Dave Seville is a struggling songwriter, (played by Jason Lee). He is continually trying to go somewhere and find someone to produce his songs but the producer tells him that he should quit this line of work. Ian Hawke plays a record promoter (played by David Cross). This is the usual person that thinks he is better than everyone and tries to take its advantage of anyone that comes through his door. Makes to a head of Claire Wilson, which is Dave’s girlfriend (played by Cameron Richardson). She has had enough with Dave and tries to break up with him, because she thinks he is crazy. Then there is the three chipmunks, Justin Long is the voice of Alvin. Alvin is the mischievous one, he is very inquisitive and is always getting into trouble. Next is Theodore, he is very shy and timid and a little shorter than the rest, he is the one that has nightmares and tried to sleep with Dave. And last but not least, we have a tall slender Simon (voiced by Matthew Gray Gubler). He is kind of like Spock in Star Trek. He uses his brains and tries to keep everyone straight.

Good Old Days
This movie will bring back memories of the good old days. When you were little, sitting around, at Christmas time and thinking of Santa Claus coming down the chimney. When mom and dad puts this record on the record player and no TV on at all. You were just piddling around your bedroom trying to stay out of trouble. This will help you slip back into those days of old, when you did not have to worry about gang shootings or violence. You just hope that your kids will enjoy the movie and forget, what is going on in the outside world.

Rating
This movie is rated PG, and the critics give it 3 1/4 stars, but I liked it so much that I would give it five stars. This is a good, they, family, fantasy music movie, I could go on and on. You will not have to worry about any bad language in this movie and the acting is good enough for the kids to understand. This would be better to watch it in the confines of your own home instead of at the movies.

Conclusion
I would highly recommend getting this DVD for you children, they will get a big laugh out of it. I don’t know what formula they use when they look for the voices of these characters, but they did an excellent job matching characters with the voice. The mixture of animation with real world acting was blended perfectly together. The music was exceptional, every time I hear the song “Christmas don’t be late” it brings back memories of my childhood. The other song that is in this was when they were dancing on a stoop singing “Had a Bad Day”. Even though this movie is meant for all children under the age of 13, I think that the whole family will enjoy this immensely.
