Pinnacle of Beauty Magazines
Date of Review: Jul 12, 2001
The Bottom Line: This magazine will keep you updated on all the latest. It is always fun to read
Each month I look forward to receiving my magazines. It is always fun to read the articles and see what else is new. One magazine that I subscribed to over a year ago was Allure. It is more of a beauty and fashion magazine and I really enjoy just flipping through it to see what is in it.
The cover model tends to be an actual model and not a well knew celebrity. One of the few exceptions was Sarah Michelle Gellar on the June issue. I am, however, reviewing the July 2001 issue with cover model Erin Wasson. The first few pages are ads, not a shocker. This magazine is not as thick with ads as some tend to be.
Here are just a couple of sections that are in the July issue:
On the Cover
Hot-Weather Hairstyles
38 Quick Fixes for Beauty Emergencies
Skin Saver: A Guide to the Best Facials

As you can see Allure is diversified with a common thread of beauty issues. For example, one of the articles is about one woman?s journey with skin cancer, ?Darkness and Light?. It reinforces that you need to wear SUNSCREEN. There are also about six pages with a photo of a model with certain outfits ?of the moment?. Most of the pages within Allure are laid out in way that is somewhat busy. But not a busy that hurts you eyes, more of a great bunch of info to read. On a single page, there may be four little corners of different info and the some little tidbit with a survey and it results. There is also two page spread of a particular celebrity this month?s was Julianne Moore. This section is entitled Celebrity Stakeout and there are various pictures of Julianne?s different looks over the past couple years. There are little excerpts along with the pictures describing the location and look.
Fashion Cravings compares two very similar products. Then, they give the maker and the price. This is meant to show how easy it is to find the same thing at a better price. For example, Yellow Christian Dior glasses for $210 as compared to Polo Sport glasses for $150. It is just interesting to see how out control some people?s spending is.
One interesting section is ?Beauty 911?, which gives helpful solutions to a ?crisis?. I use that lightly because should a beauty problem really be such a major issue, he he.
The section ?Beauty 101? is very unique to Allure. It consists of a topic, such as defrizzing hair. There will be a little column about what the issue of defrizzing hair is. Then, below it are 3 steps to defrizzing hair and detailed instructions about the procedure. This a do-it- youself section that usually easy to accomplish on your own. On the adjacent page are four perforated cards made of a poster board like paper. These little cards have pictures on them of people and products. Each month they are usually titled the same, ?Cheat Sheet?, ?Curl Kit?, ?Toolbox?, and ?Tricks of the Trade?. On the back are details on the various products, their availability and price. ?Beauty 101? is always a fun section to take a peek at.
This will seem crazy, but every time I flip through it I seem to find something I didn?t catch before. As I was doing this review I flipped through it I found something I had completely missed. It is just so full of information and articles for most ages. I would suggest for ages 16 and up. There seems to be something relevant to most women. Women always enjoy a little information on beauty, trends and current issues. I enjoy reading Allure and it?s useful not just a bunch of pictures of models with looks that are impossible to create.
Give this one a chance; it?s only $2.99 an issue. I can?t say for sure how much subscription is, but it?s fairly cheap. I usually go through the magazine tearing out all of those annoying little subscription cards before I even read the magazine (Magazine Rage).
Thanks for stopping by:)
