Alluring...
Date of Review: Oct 15, 2001
The Bottom Line: The price is right but the ads are too many.
The family reading circle has passed me several back issues of Allure magazine. This magazine is put out once a month and costs $2.99 per issue if bought off the shelf. The best buy is by subscription, which is only $12.00 a year, or $1.00 an issue.
What's Hot
This magazine, which is aimed primarily at women aged 20-35 offers the cutting edge of fashion. In each issue you can find lots of ads featuring such designers as Donna Karan, Ralph Lauren, and Guess. The clothing featured are always the hippest look with appropriate make-up and accessories.
The make up ads vary from your neighborhood drug store variety of Revlon to the department store of Dior. There are always several coupons with the makeup ads.
There is an advice section that deals with anything from acne scars to keeping your pedicure a step ahead.
There is a small section of reader's reviews of certain skin products. Each of the 3 products was rated by 4 readers each.
The Fashion Bulletin. I like to see what the fashion styles will be in the near future.
Celebrity News and pages of the unique designer dresses for the Emmys.
A few editorials of big city careers. This issue deals with a hair stylist who goes to the stars homes to do their hair before a big party. Last month's issue dealt with a real estate agent in Hollywood.
The makeup and skin care tips.
Very little sex content-a big plus!!
What's Not
Obviously the extreme amount of ads are not hot in my epinion. Even with the coupons attached, the ads are still aggravating.
The Fashion pages looks like something from a costume shop. Most of the bizarre fashions will not trickle down to WalMart or to small townsville, where I live.
Some of the make up looks are not so hot.
Final Thought
I would love this magazine if I were younger, mid 20's say, because of the hip fashions and have the money to spend on the newest make ups.
The price is right, but the ads are too many.
