How To Destroy A Good Band, Vol. 1: The Glossy (But Great) Major-Label Debut

Pros: Excellent jangly guitar pop with gorgeous vocal harmonies.
Cons: Not much in the way of originality.
The Bottom Line: "All Over The Place" is an excellent debut release, and a record that any fan of high-quality pop music should investigate.
Review: Long before The Bangles were associated with melodramatic power ballads and having more hair than talent, its group members were aspiring power-pop aficionados fresh from LAs Paisley Underground. Consisting of Vicki Peterson (guitars), Susanna Hoffs ...

Before I thought the Bangles were everything, they were all over the place!

Pros: Great pop/rock hooks, wonderful harmonies, lots of energy
Cons: None, it's a great album.
The Bottom Line: If you like any of The Bangles work you will probably enjoy this album. It crackles with energy, youth and feminimity.
Review: I didn't really get into the quartet The Bangles until they released their third album Everything in 1988. I mean, I liked their singles "Walk Like An Egyptian" and "Manic Monday" but I didn't become a true fan until the "Eternal Flame" ...

Pros: Jangle pop with harmonies to spare
Cons: Some true filler dots the disc
The Bottom Line: Simply put, the finest disc released by the band (so far, anyway). Some of the best guitar-based pop to come out of the 1980s or any decade.
Review: Cryptic title? It is? Is it really? Well, here's the thing -- evidently, the Bangles are set to release a brand new album later this year called Doll Revolution. That's good news for ol' Hawg, to be sure. I know it's due to be out by March...

Throwback Rock'n'Roll by The Bangles

|
Pros: An energetic'80s revival of '60s rock'n'roll
Cons: "Going Down to Liverpool" is the closest thing to a dud.
The Bottom Line: If you're a relic from the '60s frustrated by current music, you'll love this album.
Review: The vast majority of alleged rock'n'roll albums from the 1980s were "throw 'em back" albums, the harder thrown back into the bin the better. Not so The Bangles' "All Over The Place," a raw gem of throwback '60s-style rock'n'roll that was largely ...
