Alice through the Looking Glass is... well, just utterly strange. It features Kate Beckinsale as Alice - or Alice's mum... or Alice's mum turned into a young girl who just happens to be a fully grown woman... I don't know. I think it tries to be surreal, and ends up simply being weird. Featuring a host of famous names such as Ian Holm (Lord of the Rings,
The Madness of King George) and Steve Cooghan (
Around the World in 80 Days,
Night at the Museum), and some admittedly only famous as British TV celebrities such as Penelope Wilton (
Ever Decreasing Circles), Geoffrey Palmer (As Time Goes By) and Ian Richardson (House of Cards), it's basically a series of meetings with weird characters, and... well, that's it. I think there was probably supposed to be some sort of point to this TV movie, but it's quite probable that no-one will ever figure out what it is.
The earlier BBC adaptation of
Alice in Wonderland wasn't perfect, but it was much better than this confusing, uninvolving oddity.
