Alen A350 Air Purifier

I don't have sinus or allergy problems, but my poor husband is plagued with both. And since we live in the South, we get the Spring and Fall heavy pollen and whatever else it is that causes so much of the population here to go about bleary eyed and sounding like they have stuffed their heads with cotton wool.
My husband's suffering and my inability to do anything for him really caused some tough moments. He finally went to a well-recommended doctor and after ineffectively being treated to three course of different antibiotics, was told sinus surgery was going to have to happen. He was also told by the doctor to get a good air filter. Several brands were discussed and the Alen 350 was one of them. One point of interest was that it was emphasized NOT to get the Sharper Image Bionaire. Who would have thought? I was ready to invest in just that product, due to the heavy marketing. Research since, has shown me that I would have been wasting my money.
Both my husband and I are clean fanatics and that's probably good because we have 4 dogs and 2 cats and all are indoors. By the way, he tested negative to dog and only moderately to cat allergies. One big problem we have is dust. I can't believe how much piles up on bookshelves and surfaces in the course of just one week! We use a Dyson vacuum and clean the hepa filter, but the stuff still piles on, particularly around the tops and surfaces of the television.
Research showed us that the Alen 350 was right up there in effectiveness. The only thing it didn't remove was the smell of cigaretts smoke. We don't smoke. The price was a little high at $399 but my husband found this great site- www.etronics.com where it was offered at around $250 or so. We sent for it.
the previous reviewer was correct. What were they thinking with the color? It's got some Outer Space blue front piece but who cares if it works? So we plugged it up on the bureau next to my husband's side of the bed. There is a selection of fan speeds that goes from silent up to wind tunnel and a choice in whether to turn on the negative ion generator or not. I choose to have the ion generator on at all times, because that alone will change the quality of the air. The first night, I noticed that I slept very well and woke up clear-headed, but that's not news. My husband, however SNORED LESS. I actually woke up wondering why he was so quiet. We agreed that the difference in the air was subtle, but definite. We just weren't convinced anything radical was happening. Then it came time, at the end of the week to dust the bedroom. The bedroom is quite large with two story ceilings and open top walls leading into the bath area. The television set is a good 15' away from the bottom of the bed. I'm dusting away and it suddenly hits me that there is almost no dust on the television. I'm talking over, under, around and through-no dust! Shocking. This in a high ceiling-ed room with the doors open and the cast of thousands walking to and fro-no dust.
That was my proof that something good was happening.
My husband had his surgery and we had the air purifier going the whole time.We're still in the recovery stage, but Spring is coming and he wants to get another unit for the living room area. I'm game. I don't like the look of the cover but this unit can be wall mounted. I guess you put a big plastic palm in front of it.The product is excellent. I don't mind the fact that I have to clean and change filter (approx $35) each 6 mos. or so. It beats dusting my life away.
