Awesome Resource on Adoption

I subscribed to this magazine shortly before we adopted our second child in 1997. It continues to provide me with articles that I can apply to our lives as an adoptive family. It is the only publication that I can find available dedicating it's entire format to the subject of adoption. The magazine recently changed publishers and has become even better. It features articles from all aspect of the adoption triad. Stories from adoptive parents, adoptive children and birthparents. It allows you to read about different types of adoption, for example, private domestic, agency domestic and international adoptions. Many articles discuss the many degrees of openness in adoption along with the pros and cons to each.

This magazine is a must have for anyone who has adopted or plans to adopt in the future.

I especially enjoy the "Growing Up Adopted" articles which give me ideas on what to expect and discuss with my daughters at different ages. It allows me to look ahead to what questions or situations we may be facing in the future. I recently received the last newsletter from author Lois Melina with her telling us that she would no longer be publishing her newsletter, but I was very happy to see that she will be a regular contributor to the Adoptive Families Magazine in the future.

I have found many helpful web sites that market adoption related merchandise. Announcement cards, prints of poems, tshirts and jewelry just to name a few. There are several advertisements for those still searching for an agency or attorney to help make your dreams of adoption come true. The magazine includes a calendar of events listing conferences, information meetings and support groups for different states.

They also have the AFA bookstore that features many books and videos for adults and children on adoption. You can find books on understanding adoption and learn about different cultures and countries.
