Author's Review
I've owned the TSX for 2 months now and here are my observations.
Advantages: Pleasant on the eyes, styling, fit, workmanship are exemplarily. Nothing really feels cheap. I get the same feeling of fit and finish as if I sat in a Acura RL. Handling is outstanding. TSX just wants to go faster and faster. At 50 mph and up, it's cornering and stability is amazing. The car doesn't lean at all in the turns. Acceleration is very good for this size engine. My other car has a V8 and there's not much difference. The car feels roomy for it's size. I'm 5'10" and heavy and have plenty of room. The controls and gages are very well made. Dashboard is high visible, with it's unique illumination of the gages. In bright sunlight, I don't have any problems at all, no glare. There is a LED information in the center of the gages, that list (2) digital trip gages and exterior temperature gage. There are controls recessed in the steering well, volume (radio), channel selector (radio), cruise control buttons. Nice thing about it, because they are recessed they don't feel like buttons when your hands are steering, it's only when you use them. Radio also includes XM Satellite, which is a blessing to some and a disadvantage to others. My opinion is I prefer Sirius to XM. I purchased this without the Navigation system. I really wish I spent the extra dollars. I played with it at the dealership and I thought it was outstanding, but I didn't have the extra $2000 for it. Extremely easy to operate it and the visual clarity is outstanding. There's even voice that speaks to you on where your destination is and tells you audibly how to get there, Wow!
Perforated "heated" leather seats are pretty comfortable, only exception is the lack of lower back with the lumbar support. Ventilation is extremely good, with the automatic climate control. I purchased the automatic with sport shift, nice option for a car in this class. I play with it now and then when I want to go a bit faster than usual. Acura also installed a filter for filtering outside air into the cabin. You only see this on much more expensive cars. They recommend it should be replaced every year. Radio and ventilation controls are very easy to reach on the center console. They also feel very well made, not a plasticy feel. Heated mirrors I just recently found because of the cold weather, is fantastic.
There are several storage bins located in the center console. One for cups and the other probably for a electronic device such as a cell phone. One I particulary like is the drop down storage for sun glasses at the ceiling. TSX has a fairly roomy back seat. The back seat folds down, 60/40 which I really make use of this feature. Gas milage has been great so far, approx. I'm averaging about 28-31 mpg. TSX also comes with a sunroof and it is recessed, no popups or window sticking out, everything is flush.
Safety from what I read, you get front and side air bags, and curtains. Front and side crash tests were extremely good.
Disadvantages:
The ride is very tight and bumpy. I wish they would have dampened the suspension a bit similar to the TL's. I didn't particularly like the fact that this car uses premium fuel only, but Acura says it's for better performance and fuel economy. I also noticed that the car tends to downshift to soon when driving down a hill. It is helpfull on steep hills but it becomes a bit of a nuisance most of the time. I also wished Acura would have installed "memory" to the drivers seat, my wife and I are always adjusting. (good news is that it is now on the 2006's). I contacted Acura about switching to Sirius but that would take an external receiver and I would not like the look for such a handsome interior. Only problem with the Sunroof is the control is somewhat hidden behind the steering wheel. I guess I'm used to having the control at the ceiling.
I dislike the location of the dimmer control for the dashboard. It's difficult to get to while driving. I also wish the car came with a car computer, to tell you current mpg, compass, miles to empty. One item with the trunk, I didn't carefore was the fact that I could here some items in my trunk even when the seat is up.
Conclusion: All in all it's an outstanding car for the money. Looks, styling, performance and too many extras for this type of car at this price you can't go wrong.
