Author's Review
It's crazy I know...but I'm lovin it!!! I'm 18. I bought/was given, a 2003 Acura RSX-S with about 38000 miles on it. Got it for 17 grand. It's got a modded air intake system, charcoal gray rims...loaded. I'm a web developer, and I closed a deal with a small dealership in my area. They put a good chunk of change on the vehicle, and they'll pretty much be paying my car note/insurance/gas. I'll do a breakdown on each of the points that I love about this vehicle.
Power:
Obviously, this is one of the more important aspect to any vehicle purchasing decision. The power in the vehicle is incredible. I've never driven anything faster. You'll start driving and be doing a 100mph, and wonder how you got there so fast. 0-60 times have averaged around 6 secs. That's stock, imagine if you put a little time under the hood?! Standard horsepower is 200. Nice and zesty, fun to drive, fun to shift, fun to spare. ;-)
Exterior:
I hate the looks of the RSX. It's usually a car I'd never even look at. I think the Integra with it's messed up round lights looks better. But something happens to this car when you get it in black with these rims like I have on it. It's crazy, but it turns into one of the most beautiful cars on the road. Right now I'd rate my RSX as looking better than the Scion TC, Mitsubishi Eclipse, any of the Honda Civics, Mazda RX8...it's funny, but there aren't many cars that look this good.
Interior:
In a word...Awesome. The back seat is the only con as it seats 2 instead of 3. But that's ok. There is good leg room back there, and the seats are comfortable. I have black leather on the inside, and it doesn't get hot, even in the Florida sun. This, however, might have something to do with the nice 35% - 60% tint that's on it. The steering wheel is a pleasure to hold, the sunroof is wonderful, everything is easy to read and access. The lumbar support in the drivers seat is great! plus there is lateral support for the aggressive driver. No need to put racing seats in...believe me.
Audio:
Excellent. The best I've heard. Even the M3's sounds system didn't sound better. The RSX S has a Bose system with 7 speakers. The sound is clearer than listen to music with noise canceling headphones. It's hot. The bass is good due a built in sub. Not bad at all. I have an iPod, and was particularly grateful for the cassette deck. I wanted to put a system in with DVD and navigation and stuff, but I won't. My iPod can connect to one of the cheap tape deck transformer things, and play my music through the tape deck. The sound is precise, clean, CD quality. No need for an expensive system.
Insurance:
A lot of people wonder about this so I'll share my experience. I have to pay 1200 a year. I use Geico. It's in my mothers name not mine. If it were in mine that figure would probably quadruple. Not sure. If you're a young guy, you'll probably need a second job to pay for the insurance. Check that out before you fall in love with the vehicle.
Summary:
Overall, the only cons I have with the vehicle are because of some things the previous owner did. The vehicle itself gets a perfect 5 stars in my book. The only think I'd take over this right now, is an M3. ;-)
Get this if you have long commutes and need some fun. Get this if you have kids. Get this if you are looking for the perfect first car and don't want car repair bills. Get this if you want a quality used vehicle. Get this if you want to average about 30mpg (It takes premium fuel, though I've calculated it, and that'll put you out about 6 bucks a month over its lesser sibling the regular RSX which takes regular.) Get this if you can afford it. It's worth every penny.
