Author's Review

Ok, I'm a computer user since I'm 12 years old. I saw everything from a black en green monitor to 14 inches......

I have always used CRT monitor because i was a little bit skeptical about the quality of the LCD screen. Be agree than the first generation of LCD was not too hot. Especially for gamer, photographer and web designer. One day, the day than my CRT did is last breath, i was in the front of a big question: do i upgrade for an LCD like other users or i buy another CRT of 1 tons that will take all the free space on my desk?

I decided to do the big step. After a day of reading and comparison on net, i called my supplier ( i have a computer business) and i ordered the Acer 1916W.

What a surprise when i received my monitor. A little box that weight nothing. Don't need to say than i was afraid but excited to see how it's performed. Here is my experience and impression.

The box:

When i opened the box, i saw a little black panel of 1.5 inches large that weight nothing and a plastic foot stand. My first idea was: ho ho, this thing will be so fragile than it will break in a week. The screen was well packed and nothing moving in the box. The box contained a VGA cable of good quality, a power cord, a manual and a CD.
I took all the things out, installed the foot stand, plugged everything and i was ready for the surpise.

Installation:

Like i said before, the foot stand was easy to install and the cords too. So i rebooted my computer,The screen did a 30 second of adjustment and my desktop was on the screen. Everything was awful and the icons was distorted. I took a look in my Nvidia parameters and cranked up the resolution to 1440x900. Wow everything was perfect.

Operation and picture quality:

The first thing to look when you buy a LCD monitor is the presence of dead pixels. But what is a dead pixel?

Here is the answer:

A dead pixel is a defective pixel that remains unlit on an LCD screen . The term "dead pixel" is often applied to other defective pixels.A dead pixel on your screen will appear by a number of red, green or blue dot that shouldn't be there.

My Acer 1916W has no dead pixels at all. Good point for Acer. The image was crystal clear with bright color and nice contrast. In games and movies it was impossible for me too see the difference between a LCD and CRT.

The advantage of a wide screen is than you loose nothing when you watch a wide screen movie. The other thing i like of a wide screen is than the resolution of 1440x900 provide a large working space on the desktop and when you work with application like Dreamwaver or Photoshop.

A years now i have my Acer 1916W and no complaint att all. It's working like the first day and I'm very pleased with everything.
