My HP helped me ace those killer tests!
Date of Review: Apr 11, 2001
The Bottom Line: Great calculator for beginners or students. Easy to use and great manual to help you out.
I never thought I would use or need a business calculator. I had always seen my husband use his HP and could never understand any of the functions or equations that he would punch in so quickly on the key pad. I am now a full time student majoring in business and finally had to crack down and buy one of these complicated looking calculators. This semester I am enrolled in Business Finance and Business Statistics.
Both of my professors for these classes insisted that we buy a business calculator, or we probably wouldn't pass the class. Ok, I'll buy one and force myself to learn how to use it! They both suggested the Hewlett Packard HP 10B, saying it was the best for the work we would be doing, and I went out searching for one. Friends had told me that they could only find this product at Wal-Mart. I went to 2 Wal-Mart's and finally found it for under $30. It was the last one. A very popular calculator.
I was encouraged by my Professors to learn how to do simple calculations on my new Hewlett Packard HP 10B as soon as possible. I sat down with the instruction manual and went to work. I can now proudly say that
within one hour I could figure out most Statistical operations and the Finance operations were even easier. This calculator practically taught me how to use it. I was told I could use this calculator during my tests in these 2 hard classes and if we didn't know how to use it, we would never get through the test. Enough motivation for me!
This business calculator can do almost any calculation that the more expensive calculators can do. It is all you need to get you through business courses for an undergraduate degree. Some of the operations include: interest calculations and conversion, cash flows, time value of money, business percentages, statistical sums, amortization, margin/markup, etc. The calculator is easy to read and has a 12 character display. There are 15 storage registers and plenty of memory to hold a lot of information. I also like that the Hewlett Packard HP 10B will turn itself off after 10 minutes of non use. I always forget to turn it off after a long session of school work. The batteries are meant to last one year and they are easy to find when they need replacing. There is a symbol that shows you when the batteries need to be changed.
The instruction manual is easy to read and laid out very well. I was able to find out how to do the basic operations within minutes. The Hewlett Packard HP 10B has a one year warranty and it will be quickly fixed at a HP service center. I have had no problems so far and I use and abuse my calculator daily now. I know that I will be using this product for years to come, even after graduation. I have already used it for non-school situations, such as interest calculations and time value of money.
I could go on and on about what this calculator can do. Overall, my Hewlett Packard HP 10B was a great purchase and I am glad I was 'forced' to get it. This calculator has been a life saver during those tests. I have done very well in my Finance and Statistics classes and I owe a lot of it to this product.
