Bestseller for a reason

Why don't more authors write like Tom Wolfe? He used to work as a reporter and it shows. He's got a great eye for detail, at pointing out the texture of life, all the little things that people miss. This book is a wicked social satire, perhaps not as good as Bonfire of the Vanities (which defined the 80s) but still very sharp and biting. Conservative message? Yes. What I like best about Wolfe, however, is he wants to tell a story. I'm tired for formless, modernist novels with no plot, dull dysfunctional characters, etc.. How many books about child abuse you can read? Instead, Wolfe is out there attempting to write the Great American Novel--and I salute him for it!
