In a word: Excellent

Pros: Excellent, believable characters. Intro to a unique sliver of society.
Cons: Like everyone says: the ending is a little too neat.
The Bottom Line: Don't be scared off by the real estate & banking (zzzzzzz). It is just part of the fabric, and Wolfe can make anything fascinating.
Review: My first encounter with Tom Wolfe was The Right Stuff. I don't remember whether I saw the movie first or not. I do remember not buying the book for a long time because the cover was so dull. When I finally did I was amazed.

Pros: In Depth and Abstruse
Cons: Not a can't put the book down
Review: Perhaps the secret of a great writer is one who goes to the bone of human existence and squeezes, squishes, and mulls it over. Such is the case of Mr. Wolfe's A Man In Full.
As Atlanta, out of the ashes struggles for identity, the Wolfe... |

Pros: thorough characterization
Cons: some things seemed too coincidental
Review: The first book I read by Tom Wolfe was The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test about Ken Kesey and the Merry Pranksters. This book although by the same author is not documentary in style. Based in Atlanta and focusing some on racial tensions and modern times I...

Pros: Where do i start?
Cons: It ends...really, there are a few minor things I would change.
Review: My only question is what book can possibly follow up this book? For the past couple weeks this book has become part of my life. Even when I put the book down, I thought of Charlie Croker, his associates, their dilemmas and when would I have time to read...

Pros: Profound story, deft satire
Cons: None
Review: "A Man in Full" simpy stated is a great American novel. Bringing to this opus many of the same themes and concerns he addressed in "Bonfire of the Vanities", the master satirist holds a magnifying glass up to the moral morass that...

Pros: Can't Put it Down
Cons: Many pages
Review: Why don't more authors write like Tom Wolfe? He used to work as a reporter and it shows. He's got a great eye for detail, at pointing out the texture of life, all the little things that people miss. This book is a wicked social satire, perhaps not as...

Pros: STORY
Cons: very long
Review: This book is the best book I've ever read. Now that might not be saying much coming from a senior in high school. But come on, it was 750 pages. I was hooked for each and everyone of them. It is truly a great look into the lives of men in the 1990s....

Pros: Excellent mix of plot, eloquence, and philosophy
Cons: May be too slow for the "action" readers of today
Review: Tom Wolfe's Man in Full was, in my opinion, one of the best books of the year and definitely in the top ten of the decade. A huge leap forward in literary style from the ever popular "Bonfire of the Vanities," this novel follows the tales of...

Pros: strong character development
Cons: long winded description about wealth and property
Review: Tom Wolfe has done it again. I travel a great deal and am always grabbing paperbacks as I run through airports. Of the 12 or so books which I have read this year "A Man in Full" is the strongest.
This novel deals with an extremely wealthy... |

Better than "Bonfire"

Pros: A rich landscape of characters
Cons: Superficially close in plot to "Bonfire"
Review: Much more human in scope than the renowned "Bonfire of the Vanities", this earthy novel of new and old Atlanta in conflict has a historical dimension that makes it more memorable than its earlier sibling. The plotlines have some similarities,...
