Product Review

Truly one of the best AGP cards....

by   blockbeats34 ,   Dec 23, 2007

Pros:  Price was great for the performance I got out of it.

Cons:  Power hungry card.

The Bottom Line:  If you still are running a older system and you can find one get it. You will not regret such a great graphics card.

Overall Rating: 5/5 stars

Truly one of the best AGP cards ever to come into the world even with PCI-E doing so well.

PCI-E was not any option for my older P4 system that had fell behind. Picking between buying a new machine for a handful of games or just a new graphics card was not a hard choice once I found this card. Before this card I had always used Nvidia cards and would not touch ATI for anything, but this card changed it all.

Looking over Newegg's AGP cards one day, I came across this card with 256MB Memory and 256 bit-interface with 12 pixelpipe lines. But it had one small problem a NOTIFY ME (this meaning they don't have any in stock and are trying to get more). As I read over the card I was so amazed how such a great card was so cheap. So, I put myself on the NOTIFY ME list and hoped for the best. Comparing I would have had to buy almost a $200 card to get the same performance as this one had for about $100.

About a week later I still had heard nothing back from Newegg. Now wanting to get my hands on that card I started to comb across the internet for a price that was close to or just on Newegg's. Failing in my search, I decided to give Ebay one chance on buying a graphics card (BE VERY CAREFUL BUYING GRAPHICS CARDS ON EBAY, PEOPLE WILL SELL DEAD ONES). I managed to find just two which both stated that they didn't know if they worked. So I looked them over and read everything in the posts. One was a standard X850 Pro and the other was a X850 Pro that was Bios flashed to the X850 XT with a Arctic Silencer 5. The X850 Pro and X850 XT are the same card to ever point expect the Pro has 4 Pixelpipe lines locked. Being the risk taker I am, I bid on the Bios flashed X850 Pro. Winning the bid at $115 shipped was only about $20 than Newegg was going to charge. Which wasn't a big deal to me because the Arctic Silencer alone is $30.

When I finally got the card and installed I was relieved to find it was a fully working card. With some minor software install I was up and running Elders Scrolls 4: Oblivion like it was nothing.
