Radeon 9800 Pro 128: Is it worth the upgrade?

by   Gr8ful ,  Apr 8, 2004
Pros: Fast frame rate. 128MB DDR. Compares well with NVIDIA 5900FX.
Cons: Somewhat expensive but you get what you pay for.
The Bottom Line: I'm confident that I got a great card for the money, and I don’t think I’ll be sweating over whether I should have got the NVIDIA 5900FX or not.
Review: “Hooray! It’s here!” Finally after 10 days and $204.79, my new Radeon 9800 Pro 128 video card finally arrived. Now all I had to do was install it and explain to my wife why this card was worth two hundred bucks. The first part was easier ...

It's Getting Hot In Here: Upgrades, PCIx, and Shifting Video Cards

by   zero_ , top reviewer in Computer Hardware at Epinions.com ,  May 15, 2004
Pros: Fast, fast, fast, and with the latest price drop, cheap!
Cons: Power hungry - Requires a good motherboard and power supply.
The Bottom Line: Hands down the best deal you'll get on a video card at the time of writing. Get one.
Review: Cripes, this review got old. PCI-E is here and going strong, having turned into a better value for the money, performancewise, than AGP is anymore. And they settled on calling it "PCI-E" instead of "PCI-X" so as to minimize confusion with the old and ...

Now Is The Time to Buy

by   Techdude49 ,  Oct 31, 2003
Pros: Excellent accessories, Fast, Quality Components, Good Drivers (finally!!!), DX9 Compatibility, Easy to Overclock
Cons: Can get very hot, expensive
The Bottom Line: The 9500 Pro or 9600 Pro are adequate for most new games, but if you want silky smooth graphics, get the 9800 Pro!
Review: I just picked this card up at BestBuy for $299 (includes a $50 rebate) to replace my Radeon 9500 Pro 128MB. I've used the 9800 Pro for the past week and here are my observations. Introduction This is one serious card! Check out all the gaming site ...

It worth the money. Oh is it worth the money.

by   steakphish ,  Jan 2, 2004
Pros: Sizzling performance, great image quality, still competetive.
Cons: Sizzling your computer, still a bit pricy.
The Bottom Line: It's the best super high-end card out there, and the price is good compared to the competition.
Review: I managed to get my grubby little hands on ATI's second most powerful card on the market, the ATI Radeon 9800 PRO. Recently, ATI came out with a $500 Radeon XT card which offers slightly more performance for $200 more than the 9800 PRO, which is a ...

Spectacular Card

by   gibtde ,  Jul 12, 2004
Pros: Fast, Quiet, Great Warrenty and RMA
Cons: Poor Linux Support, requires a odd power connector for fan
The Bottom Line: This is by far the best card that I own. A little bit ussupportive in some cases, but still a spectacular card.
Review: I purchased my Radeon 9800 from a somewhat questionable online dealer. I paid for the card as if it were new, but the card wasn't. Nonetheless I used the card and didn't RMA because the performance was astounding. To give you a idea of how powerfull ...

9800 Pro 128 in the upper echelon of performance video cards

by   brandxsavior ,  May 21, 2004
Pros: Screaming fast; best in cost/performance ratio (IMO)
Cons: Runs pretty hot; requires an additional Molex plug for power (a splitter cable is provided)
The Bottom Line: This is a great high performance video card needed for high end games (ex. Doom 3, Half Life 2). Can get hot; purchase a quality GPU cooling system.
Review: I’d been hoping to see the price of this card go down in light of ATI's recent announcement of the 9800's successor; the x800. Sure enough, I found a great price at Fry's 1-Day Anniversary Sale on this card. The 9800 Pro 128 is definitely a top of ...

A quaint review from a completely satisfied ATI customer.

by   qbprogger ,  Jan 15, 2004
Pros: Easy installation, nice bold warnings telling you what to remember, and extremely fast product.
Cons: Buy this card and you won't be able to stop yourself from buying games.
The Bottom Line: I would recommend this card to an NVIDIA employee. Seriously.
Review: Due to my status as a complete ATI fanatic, I must not write this review in a serious manner. I apologize in advance if I have offended anyone, but I insist on expressing my true feelings in this completely honest, heart-felt review. READER ...
