A Great Answering Machine

by   gozumm ,  Oct 18, 2006
Pros: Ergonomic, easy to learn and use, cheap, stylish, no backup battery
Cons: Low microphone recording quality
The Bottom Line: Highly recommended in lieu of voice mail on a landline. Very well worth $18.
Review: See bolded items for the executive summary. Until 2 weeks ago, I used a 10+ year old cassette tape answering machine, AM, for 2 reasons: it worked reliably until then, it had great sound quality, and I was able to archive tapes if needed. By ...

Not Bad, But With a Few Hang-ups

by   Carrathon ,  Dec 21, 2006
Pros: Remote Access Capability, Message Guard™, Reviewing Messages,Ample recording time, Number announce
Cons: Sound quality, Seven second-delay causes disconnect, Not very intuitive
The Bottom Line: Spend a few extra bucks and buy a combination telephone/answering machine.
Review: Recently I received the AT&T Digital Answering System 1738 as a gift, a few days after I received a telephone from the same person who bought me the answering machine. Since I do not subscribe to Verizon’s voice mail service, I thought, Why didn’t he ...

~~ WE REALLY ARE HOME & JUST DON'T WANT TO ANSWER ~~

by   kbolton72 ,  Dec 30, 2006
Pros: Nice enough digital machine
Cons: Only lasted six months.
The Bottom Line: Not bad, but don't count on it lasting very long!
Review: Yes, I have to admit that I am one of those people, whom, everytime that you call me, you are going to be greeted with "Hello, you have reached us when we are not available to come to the phone..."! Thanks to annoying telemarketers, impatient eBay ...

Not Good...

by   pilot727 ,  Oct 9, 2005
Pros: Sound quality - poor.
Cons: Nice features, longer recording time.
Review: We bought one and I don't like it's sound quality at all. The incoming and outgoing messages sounds terrible (i.e. hollow, echo-like). We had the older 1717 model and that was much better in this respect for ...

This is the worst ans. machine ever!

by   linken2467 ,  Dec 17, 2006
Pros: Sorry, nothing.
Cons: sound quality, machine turns off, unable to retrieve entire messages when away from home
Review: We have tried to accept this ATT machine, but what do you do with (1) horrible sound quality (I kept wondering what I would do when I got a message "I need your help. What went wrong was ..." and then more muffled words). (2) a machine that keeps ...

Excellent paper weight

by   traveler52 ,  Jan 23, 2006
Pros: Relatively cheap; color matches most counter tops nicely
Cons: Terrible sound quality; difficult to replay messages after initial playback
Review: You would think that in this "digital" age, a digital answering machine would be just the thing to have. You would be wrong in this case. If this machine is the best that AT&T has to offer, then it's time to log onto EBay to see if you can find a good, ...
