BEST when compared to Intel P4 2.8G or regular Athlon 2800

Date of Review: Jul 27, 2005

After searching the web for ANY simple comparison of Intel Pentium 4 2.8 Gig, AMD Athlon 2800 and 64 bit version of AMD 2800 Athlon, I realized there were none.

Having run Pentium 2.8 800fsb Gig and AMD Athlon 2800 333fsb systems for 7 months, I was very curious to see how they'd compare in "everyday" use. I compared times installing and running Office 2003, Internet Explorer, Outlook Express ... in other words the apps that us "non-techies" use.

Prior to building the AMD64 2800 system on a Gigabyte K8U board, 256MB Kingston DDR400 RAM with WD 200gig IDE drive, I had already determined my opinions of the P4 2.8 & AMD 2800 comparison: Pentium is better at multi-tasking (running multiple applications) and AMD slightly faster for single apps. Both are running Windows Xp Pro with SP2 updates.

Conclusion: The AMD Athlon64 2800 appears to load & run applications TWICE AS FAST as the Pentium 4 2.8 or AMD Athlon 2800 AND it appears to multi-task better than the Pentium 4 2.8gig.

Pricing: At time I paid $120 for AMD64, the P4 2.8gig was $156 and Athlon 2800 was $90.I belive AMD64 is best value.
