Pros:  they have an 8 ft cable

Cons:  the rest of the headphone

Overall Rating: 3/5 stars

The AKG 301 is a circumaural open headphone. They are kind of big and weird looking. Comfort is ok but not the best. My ears touch inside of the chamber which can be annoying. The pads are pleather and can be removed and cleaned/changed easily. This is good because all the conditions are right for a good sweat - it is currently winter here so I cannot verify this but I'll bet... lots of sweat in the summer with these pads. They are 100 ohms with a frequency response of 20-25KHz. A single sided cable attached at the left ear piece is 8 ft. long.
OK, I've stalled enough on how they sound. Where is the bass? And why do the highs sound unfocused, even a bit honky. The midrange is not very good either - recessed. At $149 I have to say they are way over priced. Grado and Sennheiser both make superior headphones in this price range. Disappointing to say the least. Their big brother the 501 is quite a bit better and worth the extra bucks!
I would have to recommend skipping this headphone if you are currently searching for something in this price range. They are not horrible but they are not good either. Mired in mediocrity they are!
