Author's Review
For years I've been looking for a decent stapler. Regular staplers jam, misfire, etc. Corded electronic staplers are just too cumbersome. But this baby is PERFECT. It never fails -- and it's super easy to use -- extremely well designed.
I've been using mine for about three months and it's still on the original charge. It comes with a nice docking/charging station, but here's a tip: don't dock the stapler after each use -- it's not necessary and detracts from the super-flexible, friendly nature of this innovative tool. You only need to recharge every month or so, so keep the docking/charging station tucked away "out of sight, out of mind." Another tip: this doesn't come with any staples so buy some at the same time you buy the stapler -- it calls for "S.F. 4" staples -- you *must* buy this kind to experience flawless performance. But don't worry: S.F. 4 staples cost only a little more than regular staples -- and how often do you buy staples after all? -- might as well buy staples that don't jam and fold up. The S.F. 4 staples have a chisel point and I believe would improve the performance of any stapler (although I can't really say since I've only used them in this stapler -- it's now my only stapler).
This is the only electronic stapler that allows you to bring the stapler to the paper rather than the paper to the stapler (but you can use it either way if you want).
It sits on its end so it has a very small "foot print" on you desk. Staples parallel to top edge or diagonally (or at any angle).
So I guess what I'm trying to say is that this is more than just a convenience item that's trying to spare you the effort of pressing down on a manual stapler -- it's much, much more than that. It's a stapler that *really* works. What a blessing after years of trying one stapler after another that always seems to jam up just when I'm rushing to finish a project.
Don't buy this stapler directly from Swingline -- they charge the full retail price of $120. (I think they're trying to protect their dealers by not competing with them.) If you buy from a major office supply chain, the street price is about $60. Worth every penny. This product may not change your life, but it will turn the frustrating chore of stapling into a simple pleasure.
One final tip: Remember when using any electronic stapler, don't "tap" the paper against the trigger. Tapping the trigger feels "natural," but you must resist this feeling. If you tap the trigger with a "jerky" motion, the paper will be moving (on its way out) while the stapler is trying to insert the staple. In other words, slide the paper in with a smooth, deliberate motion until it presses against the trigger, then wait a second while the stapler does its thing, then remove the paper. You'll get the idea.
