The Bottom Line: Buy it for use and avoid regular staplers if you have Carpal Tunnel Syndrome or Spica.
In the last few years I have had trouble with my wrists and thumb. It had gotten to the point that if I picked up something wrong I would instantly drop it and have sharp pains run up the inside of my arm. I did have it diagnosed as Spica and work a cast and a brace for several weeks.
Stapling papers together was nearly impossible for me unless I used my elbow and that wasn't always possible so my husband bought me a gift. The gift of a new stapler, not just any stapler, but the ACCO Brands Swingline Compact Electric Half Strip Stapler with Ac Adapter, 12 Sheet Capacity, Black 21101 / SWI21101.
The ACCO Brands Swingline Compact Electric Half Strip Stapler with Ac Adapter, 12 Sheet Capacity, Black 21101 / SWI21101 is a neat little black compact stapler that runs either on an AC adapter or batteries. I prefer to have it run on the 4 AA batteries over the AC adapter. I take this everywhere with me at the office from the file room, to the appointment desk to my desk. Its so much easier to use and easier to move from one place to another this way and I don't have to crawl around on the floor to find a place to plug it in.
The ACCO Brands Swingline Compact Electric Half Strip Stapler with Ac Adapter, 12 Sheet Capacity, Black 21101 / SWI21101 can be used with standard staples, but they aren't recommend. The recommendation is to use S. F. 3 premium staples. I must admit it does work better this way. Some moron from work decided to load it with the cheapies that we use and the stapler jammed. Not with the premium staples and they only cost a few cents more.
ACCO Brands Swingline Compact Electric Half Strip Stapler with Ac Adapter, 12 Sheet Capacity, Black 21101 / SWI21101 states that this stapler can staple through 2 to 12 sheets 20 pound bond paper. I have found that you can staple up to 20 sheets with the cheaper paper.
There is a square button on the top of the ACCO Brands Swingline Compact Electric Half Strip Stapler with Ac Adapter, 12 Sheet Capacity, Black 21101 / SWI21101 that you can press and it will open the stapling mechanism for easy loading. Just push it back into place, and it will snap. You don't have to use a lot of pressure. It hold a half sheet of staples.
The throat of the ACCO Brands Swingline Compact Electric Half Strip Stapler with Ac Adapter, 12 Sheet Capacity, Black 21101 / SWI21101 is 3/8 inches and there is a safety shutoff. If you are trying to make it do something it can't it will shut down. The space where the staples come out is small, hard for an adult to get their fingers in, but a child can do it with ease.
The outside construction is made of plastic and very durable. I have dropped mine on the floor numerous time and the only problem I had was the batteries fell out and I had to put them back on. That compartment is located on the bottom. Nothing wrong with the casing. The ACCO Brands Swingline Compact Electric Half Strip Stapler with Ac Adapter, 12 Sheet Capacity, Black 21101 / SWI21101 has served me well for over two years.
If you have a wrist or thumb problems, then this is a cheap easy way to go and doesn't put pressure on your hands or wrists. Make sure you shop around because I have been seeing this for around $20.00 on various web sites while looking for an electric tape dispenser.
