Author's Review

We purchased this television in February of 2006. We loved the ambilight feature and so did everyone who saw it. Worked great for about 2 months and then the picture would go off and on. We originally thought it was our HD cable box and so we replaced that but the problem continued. Finally the TV completely went black, no sound, no picture and no power. We called Phillips and they gave us a number to call for a repairman and they said that since it was under warranty the fee would be taken care of. The repairman came out about 5 days later and replaced the fuse. It worked great again for about 2 months and then it started the whole cycle over again. We called Philips again and this time asked for a new TV since this seems to be a recurring problem. They said that since it is under warranty we had to follow the warranty procedure and call the repairman again. After discussing this with them for about a half an hour and speaking to a manager, the manager told us to make sure to tell the repairman to use the new ambilight replacement kit to replace the ambilights as they think this is what is causing the fuse to blow. It has now been 4 weeks without a TV as we are still waiting for the part to come in. We are not sure how much longer it will be. I am very disappointed in the TV and the customer service. I feel that Philips is only interested in selling the product and not standing behind it. I can only hope that replacing the ambilight will really fix the problem because I have a suspicion that they are just playing around with us until it is out of warranty and then we are responsible for the repairs which the repairman said could cost quite a bit, we'd be better off getting a new TV. I do not recommend this product to anyone until they have worked out the problems with it. Update November 5, 2006: The tv has been fixed for about 2 1/2 weeks now and tonight it has broken again. Once again I will call Philips to try to get it fixed correctly.
