Product Review

An adventure you must start!

by   nixonsystem ,   Aug 30, 2006

Pros:  You get a chance to use your imagination.

Cons:  This game is very addicting. not recommended for married couples, unless spouse plays too.

The Bottom Line:  I recommend playing this game because some people have never tried anything like this. It's a great adventure.

Overall Rating: 5/5 stars

A Story

Let's say that you’re sitting at home and you haven't anything to enjoy, and you've been looking for months the right enjoyment for your liking. Then on this boring day you seem to wonder what your going to do, your single, you have a job to pay your bills, and your looking for something to pass the time by. The phone rings and its your friend from high school, who is so excited to tell you about this video game called "Everquest Online Adventures Frontiers", and your thinking to yourself, wow, this sounds like something that I can enjoy. So you ask your friend what it is that you need to do to start playing this game. He simply explains what you need to do.

So you get online and you order your game. You are very excited and can't wait until it comes to your address. When the day comes when it arrives you intensely open the game to see what the excitement is all about. then you notice that this game is an MMORPG,(Multi Player online Role playing Game) which means that people from all over the world play this game, which intensifies the mystery behind the game. You also notice that there is a monthly fee to play the game at 12.99. You don't care, you really do not care, because the mystery is too powerful.

The things you visualize in the game

When you start the game you start to feel as if you’re running around a track field. Your sweating and your heart beat is pumping faster than usual. When you enter into the game with everyone else in the world you find that the environment is considerably compelling. In fact the environment is extremely large in size. One of the most noticing facts of the game is how many different types of creatures you see in the game as you begin exploring. There are over 100 different animals, insects, and monsters that you will encounter in the game such as, lions, bears, tigers, wolves, panthers, elephants, mammoths, alligators, bees, wasps, beetles, ants, worms, giants of all kinds, bats, birds, and many more things. You get the point I presume.

Another great feature you'll notice about the game is that it is filled with all kinds of different plantation. There are trees everywhere that reach as high as the sky and trees that are only as tall as the character you play in the game. There are bushes, shrubs and different little plants that help create an adventure everywhere you explore. The environment ranges from desert, snow lands, jungles, forest, and plains filled with grass. There are mountains Taller than the tallest tree and hills fill the texture of the environment. It is very much just like our world.

You'll also notice how there are towns and cities within certain miles of each other. Each town or city is like the era of the 1800's in our time. There is no motorized equipment. Just carriages that you can use to transport to one town or city to the other. Each town and city has its own Bank system, Grocers who sell you food and drink, coaches that help with traveling, people who make clothing, weapons, and different armors. There are bars to go to and have a drink, and many people who are programmed to talk to you when you decide to talk to them. Each town is its own Race in the game. What i mean by each race is that there are also many different races of characters that you can also choose from when you start your adventure from the beginning. You can choose from, Darkelves, Elves, Humans of both Eastern and western parts of the world, Barbarians, Trolls, Ogres, Erudites, Gnomes, Dwarves, and Halflings. Darkelves are really evil people who only care for themselves and want self power. Elves are quite kind people who get along with most of the other races Except evil humans and Darkelves. Humans are just like us. Barbarians are Strong large people who just seem to be independent. Trolls are ugly disgusting people who have green skin and live in marshes and swampy areas. Ogres are also very ugly and large people but are evil and mean and one of the few races that get along with darkelves. Erudites are African American like, and simply just like humans only taller and thinner and darker skin. Gnomes are one of the funniest characters on the game. They are very small and have very large noses. They wear Glasses and usually live in mountains. Dwarves are also very short but mean, and like to control things. They are usually very good at being warriors and protecting themselves from enemies. Last, Halflings are very much like the people from "Lord of the Rings", The hobbits.

The exciting thing is that you can pick from all these different races and name that character of your liking. This is how I was drawn to the game. There were so many aspects to learn and explore that I just could not get enough of. I felt exactly as I described it earlier, so into this game and this adventure. It was great and so interesting. In fact its one of the few games that I played for so long without a desire to buy another game. I saved quite a bit of money overall because before this game it was spending 50.00 a month on a new game and sometimes 150.00 to 200.00 dollars, just to be satisfied of my game play.

GUILDS

Guilds are a great thing in Everquest. A guild is a huge organization with many people that come together to get along, to organize special events in the game like raiding for example. Raiding is one of the main events that EQOAF presents to the online players. What I mean is that there are lots of powerful mobs that can not be killed with 3-4 people in a group. It takes 15-40 people to defeat one of these mobs. The reason people raid is for expensive items, reputation, and it’s a lot of fun to get your guild altogether to raid on a specific mob. Just imagine every different race and class altogether to take down this huge dragon or mud creature. Its a lot of fun.

Everquest Online Adventures Frontiers is and expansion!

Yes! Everquest Online Adventures Frontiers (EQOAF) is and expansion to “Everquest Online Adventures (EQOA)”, which was the first game released to the Playstation2. When EQOAF was released it came with many new aspects.

Class Mastery System: The class mastery system is a huge part of the expansion. It features many options for the character that you select in the game. These options are more like abilities and character enhancements that make your character much stronger for the game. Each class in the game comes with its own different abilities and enhancements in the master class option. The way you can get these abilities and enhancements is by going into your menu and going to the Class Mastery option and holding square, which brings up an option that has a percentage meter. What this meter is for is the two different ways of getting experience as your fight enemies. The two different ways are, number one you can get experience for leveling you character which allows him to increase in level, and number two you can get experience for your master class which gives you points to buy the abilities and enhancements in the class mastery option for your character. So the meter determines how much experience per kill you want to got toward experience or mastery experience. You can put 40% to mastery experience and that means that 60% will go to regular experience which helps level your character.

More Worlds: Along with the world Tunaria which is the main world in EQOA, the expansion added another world called Odus which features twenty new zones to explore. Zones are areas that have a specific name that are like states in other words. Here is a link… http://f1.grp.yahoofs.com/v1/ECoXRfJNKl4JppRJiJdZaMwNBy6sYyQbjSbfJbrGUsRxGcPd6BDNGT7CE_jS0hkaVLfgnOPynTU6dDun45YHRE1gP133yhBvhVk/frontiers_zone_map.pdf

Different Looks: Every different race looks a lot different now. For example the ogres and the trolls have quite a new look in EQOAF. In EQOA the ogres look really buff and in shape and the Trolls look fat and out of shape. In EQOAF the ogres are fat and out of shape and the Trolls are in shape. For the rest you’d just have to see it to see the difference in them.

The Level cap is now Level 60: What this means is that in EQOA the highest level you could obtain is level 50. In EQOAF the highest level you can obtain is level 60. So there is a ten level increase in the expansion, which is great for those who wanted to make there characters even better. Once you get to level 60 there is an Epicsode that you can do to obtain a greater ability and weapons that they refer to as Epic Weapons. Each class and race has a specific category that they are in to do there Epicsode. Evil races do a specific part as compared to good races doing their own part. Evil races consist of Ogres, Trolls, and Darkelves. Good and also neutral races do their own separate quests for their epicsode.

Hidden Zones: There are three hidden zones in the expansion pack that are connected with Tunaria and Odus. In order to get to these hidden zones you will need to travel to Anu Village which is a zone in Tunaria and kill a Dreadnaught. A Dreadnaught is a difficult mob to defeat. He then drops the key to IOD (Isle of Dread). So in order to get to IOD you need to defeat the Dreadnaught, loot the key, and then travel to Cazic Thule where you use it to teleport to IOD. Another hidden zone known as POS (Plane of Sky) can only be accessed if a druid (which is a type of healer in the game) or a wizard ports you there. The last hidden zone is called POD (Plane of Disease), which I have not figured out how to get there.

New Race: Before in EQOA there was a race you could not be and that race was an Ogre. Ogres are huge beings in the game, and are very ugly and fat. But they do make the best of Tanks as well as Trolls too. As they added this new race in the game for people to explore im sure it was the biggest thing to EQOAF. In fact it was one of the main reasons why I bought the expansion pack as well.

Aside from all the great new changes for the game the graphics and character modifications are great. It makes the game look a lot more interesting as they added more detail to everything in the game.
