Author's Review
Having to transcribe documents, or re-write pages of notes that I have left for myself, it was once a struggle to find a place on my desk to put the piece of paper or notepad that I was typing from. Not only that, but it meant that I often had to strain my neck at an angle, or that I was looking down too often rather than being able to focus on what was showing up on the screen. When a co-worker was having the same problem, she ordered up several little devices that took care of the problem, and after taking a look at how easy the task was for them now, I knew that I had to get one of these new wonderful toys as well.
The product is produced by the 3M Office Supply Company, and is a simple little device that you can sit between your keyboard and the monitor on your desk. Called a Copy Holder (Product #DH140), it is designed to hold your papers up at a vertical angle that makes it much easier to view for purposes of typing or drawing data. It seems like the simplest thing in the world, but the reduction of neck and eye strain that this little device has given me cannot be measured in words, but rather in the productivity that it has added to my transcribing times. The little holder is designed to hold up to as many as 20 sheets of paper at once, and you can decide to have it as a portrait (up and down) or a landscape (sideways) depending on how the data was created the first time around.
The holder is built with a heavy back weight to keep it planted where you want it, with a rounded piece of plastic extending up from there to hold your paper(s) in place. At the front of the plastic piece, is what can be best described as a clip, that when depressed released the papers, and when in use keeps them fastened securely against the plastic piece. That piece of plastic is rounded towards the user, so that the paper is curved slightly forward on the sides. What this does is give the user a better angle to read from, and it further insures that the paper will be kept still in an easy to use location. The paper itself is not going to come out of there on accident, even if you bump against it, providing stability while you have the holder in use. Small and compact, this little toy is a little over 4 inches wide at its furthest point, and about 4 inches deep. On the bottom are little pads to keep the holder anchored and prevent it from slipping on the desk top.
The 3M Copy Holder is a real space saver because of its small features, and it is extremely helpful when it comes to keeping papers in a stationary position where the user doesnt have to strain their eyes, neck, or shoulders trying to find space for a document and then transcribing it on to the screen. It has held up very well for me, and if there are times where I dont want it on the desk, it can slide easily into my desk drawer for use at a later time. Being able to also use it for up to 20 pages at once, means that I can work through entire documents of information at one time, and I dont have to worry about clearing space around my desk to set the papers that I am referencing. Sold at Office Depot and many other office supply stores, these can be purchased for just over $2.00 on discount, or slightly more if there arent any sales going on. Regardless of the cost, they are really great assets for anyone that has found themselves needing to reference the printed page, but wanted to take some of that information easily. Usability and convenience make this a highly recommended product.
