Do not buy this slow cooker!
Date of Review: Apr 7, 2009
The Bottom Line: Do not buy this slow cooker. "Slow" is not how it cooks, since it boils then burns everything to a crisp!
I bought the Rival 6 quart slow cooker because of the so-called programmable features, and its large capacity. The lame programming is 4 or 8 hours, on low or high -- that's it, no in between, then it switches to warming mode, though I saw no difference between warming and low. That alone is not why you shouldn't buy this product. This thing BOILS on low within the first 30 minutes, reducing everything I cooked to burnt crust that had to be chiseled off the sides of the stoneware. I called Rival to express my concern over the high temperature of this appliance, and was told "these newer models run hotter because the heating element is in the sides, not the bottom. We recommend you add more liquid." She offered to exchange my slow cooker, but there was no indication that another one would be any different, In fact, the woman on the phone said that her slow cooker boils too. I don't think I should have to alter my recipes to accommodate their faulty product. I took it back to the store for a refund, while I research other non-Rival products. I paid $24.99 after the holidays for the Rival slow cooker.
