I love my 2006 Ford Mustang v6
Date of Review: Nov 6, 2006
The Bottom Line: Spunky and sporty car that will allow you to relive the nostalgia of the late 1960s at an affordable price. You'll be proud to own a new Mustang V6.
When I first saw sketches of the new 2005 Mustang in auto magazines I knew in my heart that I would one day own one. My first car was the 1969 Mustang Mach 1. I really loved it. The 2006 Mustang that I purchased brought back all the good memories from my past. All my cars have been either white or silver so I could not resist in purchasing the Torch Red v6 Mustang. I knew when I test drove it that it had quite enough power and I didn't even want to test drive a v8. The 210 horsepower 5 speed allowed me to lay rubber without even trying. The V6 was more than I had expected it to be. The car handles like a charm. It's responsive and quite fun to drive. The body is solid and the interior is very quite, No squeaks or rattles at all. I like the rear quarter windows that allow visibility in what would otherwise be blind spots. The styling reminds me of the car I really wanted when I was 15 years old. A 1966 GT 350. The New mustang is not only beautiful to look at but fits in the palm of your hand when it comes to washing and waxing it. It feels good to the touch. I can even reach the top of the roof without a step stool. My car does not have the shaker stereo but I find the standard 4 speaker single cd player is more powerful than I had expected. (The optional 6 cd changer shaker stereo also takes up space in the trunk with the extra speakers). The stereo system has a setting that is called Speed volume. It can be set so your radio volume gets quiet when you slow down and louder as you speed up. My car does not have the My Color option which allows you to change your dash lights to 125 different colors. The radio and air conditioning controls are well placed and easy to operate. The air conditioning is excellent. It is powerful and cools the car quickly. The air vents work smoothly and designed to direct the flow of air exactly where you want it. The rear seats are small, but I keep mine folded down and covered with a handmade carpeted cover which gives my car a two seater look. The upgade dash looks good, but it took a while to get use to the chrome on the steering wheel. Often the sun reflects directly into your eyes. The chrome spokes also get very hot in direct sunlight. I would have rather had the basic interior in dark charcoal. But I am now glad that I have the slate cloth seats. My car does not have the silver dash, which I am happy for. I feel the silver plastic gives the dash a rather cheep look. Beside the interior upgrade the only other option my car has is the power drivers seat. At first I didn't think it was necessary because the standard seat does have a height adjustment lever but I find that when the seat is in the correct driving position it is hard to squeeze in and out of the car. By having the power seat it is easy to move the seat all the way back making entry and exit much easier. Not only does the car have quick responsive handling it gets better gas mileage than advertised. I get about 25 in town (Albuquerque)and 30 on the (New Mexico) freeway. It took me about 5 months to notice that the steering wheel is not exactly center with the driver's seat. It is positioned about an inch to the left. I wonder why? This little quirk is not enough to discourage you from purchasing the vehicle. I did not test drive the automatic, but from what I understand the transmission clunks a bit when the car shifts gears. I have also started looking at used car lots when ever I see a Mustang for sale. I find a lot of v6 automatics but have yet to see a used v6 5 speed. (I have yet to see another red car with slate grey interior). All in all I will have to give the 2006 Mustang v6 5 speed and excellent rating. With all the features that come as standard equipment, the power of the 4.0 v6 engine and the nostalgia appeal you will not find a better car for the money. I paid $20,000 out the door, for mine. Did I mention that I really, really LOVE my new Mustang?
