Author's Review
I bought my used 2005 Lincoln Ls in June of 2006. I purchased it in Ohio and imported it to Canada. I loved the look so much, I had to get one. You can really get excellent value on a used Ls.
Power:
This monster boasts a strong 3.9 L V8 engine with 280 HP and 286 lb-ft of torque ; enough power to throw you in the back of your seat and give you a rush every time you floor it. It has a 5 speed automatic transmission with the SelectShift option in a separate shift gate. It is a rear-wheel drive vehicle with full dual exhaust that rumbles nicely.
Comfort:
The leather seats are very comfortable. Both front seats offer multiple power directions with lumbar support. The drivers side is equipped with 2 memory settings that control the seat adjustment and tilt and telescopic steering wheel position. This is especially nice for couples with both people driving the car. The back seat is best for two regular sized adults. Three people might be pushing it a little. It is equipped with a four-wheel independent suspension that is very sporty and stiff. It has factory 17 inch alloy wheels. The ride could be viewed as a little ruff but still comfortable and the handling is great. Lincoln has achieved great front and back weight balance, and even bothered to place the battery in the back to do this. Heat and AC is controlled separately for the driver and the passenger. Temperature is adjusted with a digital display. There is a vent for the back behind the centre console.
Extras:
The power moonroof is great for warm summer days. The seats are not only heated, but also cooled. Watch how people are stunned by that option. The sound system is awesome and it has a 5 disc in-dash CD changer. The rear view mirror is equipped with an auto-dimming technology and also a compass. There is also an outside temperature display. It also has a nice 4 year/50 000 mile warranty.
Safety:
Safety features include four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes, driver and passenger front and side airbags, traction control, and AdvanceTrak anti-skid system.
Overview:
The Lincoln LS is a real head-turner. I was in love with it since the first time I saw one. Driving it confirms its right to compete against the higher priced European luxury cars. There have been many changes in 2003 to the LS, although the body looks practically identical. If purchasing one, I would recommend choosing the 2003 and up models.
So far, I did have a reliability issue with the engine, but it turned out to be a blessing in disguise. The dealership couldn't figure out the problem with it (the car kept bouncing while idling) so they put in a factory crate engine. Now my car has a new engine.
Since my purchase, I have had a very positive experience with this car and it is a pleasure to drive.
On a less positive note:
Here are a few things associated with the Lincoln LS that could be better. The trunk space is limited : Fitting larger luggage can be a pain. Gas mileage could be better : I average about 20 MPG. I have been a Ford man for while now, but I must say that the service at my local dealership could be better. That might have something to do with having purchased my vehicle from a used car lot and not from them.
