Author's Review
We've had our F150 4WD Supercrew Lariat for 9 months now and the only complaint we have about it is that the interior smells a little 'off'. We aren't quite sure what we are smelling, but it's obviously nothing organic, and frequently imperceptible with a quick vent of the windows.
That out of the way, we love it! It is really quite unbelievable how quiet this truck is. Wind, road, and engine noise are whisper quiet at highway speeds. And for a truck, the ride is very plush barring harsh irregularities.
As should be expected, fuel economy is not up to EPA ratings. We have routinely gotten about 12.5mpg over the last 8000 combined city and highway miles except for when towing our 3500 lb boat which drops us to around 11 on the highway at 60, less than 10 at much over 65 mph. Without the boat, we can achieve low 16s on the highway, and as high as 15 around town - if we drive it very lightly. 18 mpg on the highway as the EPA suggests is just plain laughable without going to extreme fuel conservation measures.
Towing performance seems adequate for out boat, but I would not want to have to merge quickly onto the freeway hauling much more weight than that. A Geo Metro is probably faster. Once up to speed, it handles the weight of the boat very nicely without undue wandering or jerkiness, but allot of that may be related to hydraulic trailer brakes and tandem axles. It stops as quickly with the boat as without.
