Product Review

100,000 miles and still going!

by   talltgolf ,   Feb 26, 2007

Pros:  Fuel economy, power, looks.

Cons:  Weak front suspension, too little cushion in front seats, weak hood and front fenders

The Bottom Line:  I would recommend this car. Excellent MPG, Looks good, much less expensive that friends import both on front end and up keep.

Overall Rating: 4/5 stars

Author's Review

I am not your typical reviewer. I actually own and USE this car daily as you will see. I needed a gas miser to replace my Dodge 1/2 ton that only got 15 mpg. I use this car for business, mostly highway miles about 5,000 per MONTH. It had 13,600 when I bought it Sept. 05 and has 99,750 today Feb. 07.

After getting the initial bugs fixed which warranty took care of, such as front turn signals that shorted out, a front strut that leaked down, and a steering sensor, the car has been trouble free the past 60,000 miles or so.

The 3.5 V-6 is powerful, and gets great mileage, about 32 highway at 70+, and low 20s in town. I use Moble 1 oil, change it at 6000 miles. One set of brakes at about 80,000 and a set of tires. (much quieter and better handling once I got the Bridgestones off and put Michelin Harmony on) Let me also add the spacious trunk is loaded with supplies, and still has room for the golf clubs!

I'm mid 50's, 6'1" and 200# and have plenty of leg room and the car is fairly easy to get in and out of. The seat needs more padding. It would be great for a younger person going short distances but for myself, I'ld like to see more fluff!

Handling is superb for an "American" built car. Steering is not as tight as the Classic Malibu, but is precise.

Now, my biggest complaint is that the car is just not as tight as it should be. The hood and fender metal is simply too thin. Occasionally I travel rough gravel roads, and this is where the lightness of the car and front end are most prevelant.

The controls are well laid out and easy to reach, except the windshield wiper controls need to be on the left as on most GM cars I've driven. (turned the lights off going down the road at 70 when I was trying to turn on the wiper....OOPS!)

For the average driver, and especially for the money overall a very fine car. I plan to get 250,000 out of it. Will update later!

September 8, 07 Update

Well, at 131,000 she's still going strong, however have decided it is about time to have the factory spark plugs changed. Loosing some MPG and performance but at 131K miles that is to be expected!

Will update at about 200,000 or so!

March 2, 2008 Update again.

Well, we're at 152,000 and still going strong. Still no problems that haven't been mentioned, in fact, seems to be getting along better than the first 50K or so. Still no plans on retirement for at least another 100k or so.

November 16, 2008

Well, don't know how long this review will last, but at 192,000 + the car is still going strong.  I think all I've done is put a new set of tires and brakes since last review.  GOOD CAR!
