Newest Evolution Leaves This Fan Hungry

by   capam73 ,   Jun 18, 2002

Pros:  Opening track is awesome. Various vocalists gives album texture.

Cons:  Slow paced. Doesn't "feel" like a Moby album

The Bottom Line:  Not Moby's best album.

Overall Rating: 3/5 stars

Author's Review

A friend of mine described this album as "evolutionary." If that is true, he's gone and evolved himself out of what made him a genius for our time. Don't get me wrong, I don't hate this album...but it doesn't have the same passion and feel that I've come to expect from a Moby album.
Moby opens up 18 in classic style...the first track builds up with energy and enthusiasm. In all his previous works, the ebb and flow of energy in the work keeps his audience on a roller coaster that they just can't get enough of.18, however, never seems to catch the wave of energy that the first track creates, and because of it, the album can't seem to keep going where it needs to.
Now...like I said...I DO NOT HATE THIS ALBUM. I just feel that it doesn't feed its audience the substance that "Everything Is Wrong", "Animal Rights" and "Play" did so wonderfully.
