Author's Review

THQ released WWE Road to Wrestlemania X8 on the Gameboy Advance a couple years prior to this games release. WWE Road to Wrestlemania X8 was a fun game, as you had a Pay Per View mode where you had to made the matches to rise through the ranks of the company. This added fun to the game, and when you did well, you unlocked items to buy at the Shopzone. Other fun modes madeRoad to Wrestlemania X8 possibly the best handheld wrestling title, so why is the predecessor to this game so pitiful.

Gameplay
You have a decent selection of modes, including the season mode, which is the main mode of the game. Unfortunately, the season mode in this game is really poor, boring and repetitive. You start on one show of your choice, Smackdown or Raw. After picking a wrestler you then go on through a bunch of challenges, all whom are pretty much the same. Typically you are always asked to use as many moves you can to excite and get the crowd behind you. While this sounds fun and might be at first, it gets very repetitive and boring fast. After winning the title on one show, you have to go over to the other show and win that belt before the mode is over.

Another problem is that they got rid of the Shopzone and PPV modes that made the last game fun and special. The lack of modes really kill the gameplay. Also the movesets are very limited. Seriously, you only have around 8 moves in your entire moveset, which makes gameplay very boring. Some wrestlers even don't have their right finishers, some wrestlers have generic moves such as the suplex and DDT as their finisher when in real life these are not their special moves.

This game also has an exhibition mode. This mode is okay as it has many matches such as tag team, singles and cage matches. But what happened to table, tlc and ladder matches. This is the exact exhibition mode as this games predecessor. This mode has some enjoyment as you can customize your own matches by selecting your character and opponents.

Graphics
The graphics are very ugly as everything is glitchy, blocky and scratchy. The wrestlers look like squares, and there is a tremendous lack of color. These reasons make it hard to know who's who among the wrestlers once you get to the ring. The wrestler portraits on the select screen look alright.

Arenas also looked pretty bad. The crowds were non existent fr the most part and every arena were typically the very same. Also cut scenes were very pitifully rendered, which is due to large part of the glitchy graphics. This made a bad season mode worst.

Sound
The music and sound effects in Survivor Series are the only decent points in the game. The entrance music sounds better than it ever has, and the sound effects are spot on. When a wrestler hits the mat, you hear it. When a wrestler gets hit by a chair it sounds like a genuine thud. The sounds are clear, but a little repetitive, like all the weapons sound the same. The entrance music is good, since each track is distinct. The music in the entrances are like the superstars real music expect none of the songs have words. So wrestlers like Shawn Michaels comes out to only an instrumental and no words.

Replay Value
There really is limited value. If you played any other wrestling game, this game will get boring very fast. There are very limited options which killed this game. If you are a die hard wrestling fan you might enjoy season mode for a while. Other than that there is nothing else to do in this game.

Overall, Survivor Series is a big step down for this wrestling game franchise. There was no point in releasing such a bad game. Bad graphics, boring gameplay and a limited selection of gameplay modes really annihilate any possibility of the game being fun. Even if you're a fan I'd avoid Survivor Series. This game is really only to rent or buy if your a DIE HARD wrestling game fan.
