The Bottom Line:
For something different and definitely challenging, play Socom 3. But try not to get mad at not being able to kill at times.

Author's Review
After many release dates being pushed back, we were finally rewarded with the release of Socom 3 in October. The highly awaited game was now just in time for the beginnings of the holiday season and the race was on to learn all the new maps and new armory items.
After playing Socom 2 for over a year and fighting the lag, glitching, and team killing, I was ready for a change. Others immediately began complaining about how different things were. Afraid of change I guess.
I thought perhaps Zipper, Interactive would have listened to the 50,000 people that played Socom 2 and perhaps change some things for the better. I'm not sure they listened very well. Instead of fixing the great Socom lag, they made maps larger and threw more people in the mix (from 16 people in Socom 2 to 32 people in Socom 3). Instead of making it difficult to cheat, they took away the ability to chat with someone outside the room. Instead of combatting the rank-ups, they made more ranks.
I'm not saying that I don't like the game. I do. It is challenging, you can still talk to all the people you've made friends with (my favorite part) online, but there are a lot of things that didn't need to be changed that they went to great lengths to "fix". In reality, they needed to fix the major things like a bullet actually killing someone when it hits them in the forehead instead of worrying about whether or not u could see that you were getting voted out of a room. They considered "voting a player to get them to turn around" to be cheating....so instead u can type in game and tell the alive players where the other team is. You can no longer message someone to join your room without being in the briefing room. Game time went from an average of 30 minutes to anywhere from 45 minutes to 2 hours per map.
I do like the ability to make maps smaller and to change different settings within the maps. This makes gameplay a lot more interesting. Lag is still everpresent and a direct hit may not kill whereas a stray bullet will kill immediately.
I was addicted to Socom 2 mainly because of the friends I had made on there within my clanmates. I think those friends are really the only reason I am currently playing Socom 3 so much. Otherwise, I don't know that I would be playing at all.
