Author's Review
Socom 3. I so wish that this came out as being the first installment to the Socom universal. With so many improvements from Socom 1 and Socom 2 its almost like playing "Ghost Recon." Lets start with the first most noticeable improvements.
Graphics: Socom 3, even though it is being release at the end of Playstation's Life Span, the developer has managed to script a larger map for the online game. Up to about 4-5times larger they say. How did they do this? They managed to utilize a streaming technique where they were able to accomplished this. With Larger Maps, and this streaming technique, the graphics were inhanced with bigger and more detailed Seals, and also Terrorist.
Interesting Changes: Some of the most intersting changes that have been made now is that you can now SWIM!!! and not just swim, but swim UNDER WATER!!! Woot, awsome for getting around with little noticed. Other of course is the use of mobile utilities... Tanks, Trucks, Boats. You can either be the point man, driver, or even hop on the guns and do drive-by through your enemies or even run them over!
Lag issue: The most important thing about Socom 3 is that if you are lagging like you were in prior Socom 1-2 where you can be standing still but really be unleashing clips of m14 to someone in the back. Well that has been taken care of... Simple>> You lag, you get disconnected. The Hosting service is also now being providing by the developers instead of other PS2 players which makes it much more reliable.
Maps and Game: The maps that you play on single player mode is very basic and straight to the point, The game in total should take an average player about 6hours of game play. Once you have complete the game once you have the option of playing the game again on Caption and Admiral. Completing these challenges, you will unlock characters in your online play. Getting the Guilly suit could be of benefit to you if you like to prone along the ground and wait for your enemies to walk by you than get them from the back. You also get weapons like the IW-80 and STG guns as well if you complete the game 3 times.
AI: The other most impressive thing is that the AI in the game actually will shot at you!!! Not like the last 2 games, these AI have been enhanced to fire at you and they will once in a while get a head shot on you. The game is actually very short but it is actually very fun to play. The levels are not repetative, they lead you from one mission and task to another very smooth play, and hardly any downtime. But again the AIs in this Socom are smarter, they will get on Torrents and shot you, or drive a truck at you, sound alarms to call for back up.
Last Words: The game has made such improvements from its prior edition that it feels as if its another game in total. The developers really shows that they cared about the consumers idea. They took the consumers idea and feelings and made it into an actually working product with this edition of Socom 3. Bigger maps, medium and small maps, Lag issue was the biggest issue in the past and I personally feel that they have taken the steps to prove to us that they understand that frustration and they have taken player hosting off. Another thing is that once you VERIFY your Character's name, remember its one name per credit card. You are not charged anything, this is only for characters name that you want to RANK up and show off to others. Verifying an account is not all bragging rights either, but its a way to keep in touch with people much easier. You get access to friends list, Clan options and even mail! So again with soo much improvements to the game and with so much effort that has been put into this edition. All Socom fans will really respect what they have done and it should be a must have for any Socom fan or Ghost Recon fans out there.
