Ares, hear my cry
Date of Review: Apr 25, 2006
The Bottom Line: God of War is a great game. It has high replay value and they leave room for a sequel.
Kratos is the greatest Spartan commander ever seen before. Kratos and his army are ruthless and feared by all. He is undefeated until a ferocious band of barbarians begin to overtake his army. In desperation, he calls upon Ares, the God of War, in exchange for his servitude. Ares accepts and in return saves his life and gives Kratos the Blades of Chaos which chains can never be removed. He then Leads the army of Ares and does his bidding in every way. But his loyalty is crushed when Ares tricks him into killing his own wife and son, the only things he had ever cared about in this world.
Feeling betrayed and haunted by the memory of what he'd done, he seeks revenge with the help of the other Gods. Throughout his quest, they each grant him more powerful weapons and magic such as Zeus' lightning bolts for range, Hades army for extra hits, the head of Medusa to turn the enemies into stone, and the rain of thunder to shock and paralyze. With these weapons, he journeys to familiar mythological sites and finds the unattainable Pandora's Box.
The plot is exiting and the puzzles along the way are challenging. I have beat God of War once and I am currently playing through again. There are great graphics and wonderful Greek storyline that leave you in awe. Every so often, there are poor camera angles that can make it a bit challenging to play, but that is it. There are no frustrating puzzles here, just fun intellectually stimulating puzzles that are not impossible. You just have to think and do a bit of trial and error.
