Wrestling games on the N64 are as popular as Crimson Tide bumper-stickers in Birmingham, and therein lies the problem: How to bring something new to the world of suplexing studs? The radical answer, from Electronic Arts: Do away with the ring. More than 50 WCW wrestlers, including women and managers, piledrive their ways through seven environments, each with at least two rooms. Since there's no ring, don't expect a ref to show up. With no spoil-sports in striped shirts around, you're free to use foreign objects to your heart's content.

WWF No Mercy light!

The Bottom Line: If you're a fan of WCW wrestling than you want to rent or get it but avoid buying it unless it's fairly cheap.

A wrestling game to avoid

The Bottom Line: A horrible short and easy wrestling game that's not even worth playing once.
Review: As a fan of WCW for most of it's lifespan, I thought this game was a unique concept. However, it's not a great game compared to most other wrestling games.

The game features no wrestling rings at all. In it's place is various backstage...

The Bottom Line: A game that can get old after a day or 2.. but I do recommend it.. to rent it and possibly buy it if you love wcw
Review: For a wcw game..its not bad compared to the other wcw games before it(nitro,wcw/nwo,wcw vs.world,etc). There is no ring in this game,which makes it unique in that way.All action takes place in backstage areas.

WCW Backstage Assault N64
Backstage Assault will include more than 800 motion-captured animations, including some 300 reused from last year's WCW Mayhem. EA boasts that the game's controls will be much quicker and more responsive than Mayhem's. The exquisitely detailed wrestler-create feature even lets you specify holes in a wrestler's pants. EA is also touting the fully rounded wrestler-create option for females. Developer Kodiak Interactive (which also made Mayhem) has also advanced the art of weaponry by implementing fatigue. For example, a two-by-four will crack the second time you whack a rival with it, then break completely the third time it's used. Kodiak is also busily concealing weapons in crates and other objects.
