Family Portrait

Date of Review:  Nov 1, 2002
The Bottom Line: Despite the weak ending and profusion of minor characters introduced in the final pages, Three Junes is a beautifully written and insightful novel.
Review: Is there anyone out there who feels like their family understands them? I mean really understands them? Most of the people I know deliberately misrepresent or omit a fairly large portion of their lives when around their families. There s a variety...

Three in One

Date of Review:  Sep 16, 2005
The Bottom Line: Don't expect it to be the Great American Novel and just enjoy the read.
Review: Three Junes is really not one book - it is three separate novellas, which are grouped together into what is called a book. As long as you understand and accept that, you'll enjoy it. Otherwise, you're going to be like most of the members of my book...

Three Junes - Exquisite - a must read book

Date of Review:  May 31, 2004
The Bottom Line: This is one of the finest contemporary fiction offerings of the decade. A sensitive and optimistic first offering by Julia Glass, we can only look forward to things to come.
Review: This book is truly a literary symphony as delicate themes introduced in the first section are interwoven as they develop throughout the story in variations on maturity, self-acceptance, relationships and familial love. The novel's finest point is in...

First Line

Paul chose Greece for its predictable whiteness: the blanching heat by day, the rush of stars at night, the glint of the lime-washed houses crowding its coast. Blinding, searing, somnolent, fossilized Greece.
