The Bottom Line: The Virgin Suicides possesses talented writing, but gaps in the plot make something amiss. Others may enjoy the book simply because it is elusive, but said elusiveness bothers me.

The Bottom Line: This is a well-written novel with some truly wonderful, memorable moments. However, it is ultimately handicapped by underdeveloped characters that make the entire work seem somewhat stilted and artificial.
