Product Description

 
It's Christmas of 1183, and Henry II (Patrick Stewart) must find a successor to his throne. He favors his youngest son John, while his wife, Eleanor, believes that their eldest son, Richard the Lionhearted, would make a better king. While their disagreement plunges the family into a deceitful war of wills, it becomes apparent that neither of their three conniving boys are qualified for the job. Director Andrei Konchalovsky remakes the 1968 in this 2003 television production.

Stewart and Close in The Lion in Winter: you can't help but compare...

The Bottom Line: Decent performances, nice settings that were filmed in Hungary, but I still miss Katharine Hepburn.
Review: I approached this film with some trepidation. After all, the original 1968 film with Peter O'Toole and Katharine Hepburn in the lead roles would be a hard act to follow, and to make it all the worse, it happens to be one of my favorite films. So...
