This uproariously funny picture book by Neil Gaiman, the creator of the popular SANDMAN comic book series and author of the novels NEVERWHERE and AMERICAN GODS, draws its audience from his immense adult fan base as well as from children new to his work. The nameless narrator covets his friend Nathan's goldfish, and offers to trade his dad for them. Once his mother discovers the exchange, however, she orders her son and his younger sister to reverse the transaction. Unfortunately, Nathan has already traded the boy's dad for an electric guitar, and the guitar's previous owner has traded him for a gorilla mask, and....The scratchy, collage-like illustrations are by Dave McKean, a frequent collaborator with Gaiman on comic books and graphic novels. Fish for father a short-lived good deal

by   eplovejoy , top reviewer in Books at Epinions.com ,  Jan 25, 2008
Pros: clever writing, mildly subversive story (for grown-ups and kids older than about 8), off-kilter illustrations
Cons: Humorless parents might not appreciate the gentle irreverence with which parents are treated.
The Bottom Line: The book is a delight. Posting on Epinions is a challenge. As explained below, this is a deliberate and defiant duplicate post. Please rate accordingly.

Two Goldfish plus one father equals great fun!!!

by   rcoaxum12 ,  Apr 1, 2008
Pros: Neil Gaiman and Dave McKean’s great teamwork makes this book a true success.
Cons: Slightly creepy ending.
The Bottom Line: This book is absolutely fantastic-if the younger children can handle the ending.
