Product Description

Micheal Crichton's signature amalgam of suspense and science is put to dazzling effect in this riveting murder that unfolds in the arena of volatile Japanese-American relationships - where control of the most sophisticated technology is the fiercely coveted prize and the Japanese saying "business is war" has more than figurative meaning.

Two L.A.P.D. officers are plunged into the "shadow land" of Los Angeles' Japanese community as they investigate the death of a beautiful young woman at Nakamoto Tower - the new U.S. headquarters of the powerful Japanese electronics corporation. Their painstaking search for the killer uncovers an insidious, widespread pattern of bribery, corruption, and extortion that reaches from Tokyo and Osaka to Capitol Hill - where the fate of what's left of the already decimated American telecommunications industry is being decided.

Once again, Crichton has taken the facts behind today's headlines and created a real and frightening picture of our possible future.

Ca??mon Mikey, you can do better than thisa?|

Date of Review:  Feb 29, 2008
The Bottom Line: Read Crichton's other books - notable Airframe and Jurassic Park, before reading this one.
Review: OK, the story wasn't all that bad. Kind of exciting, really. But you talk about political. This book reeks of politics. As it goes on, Crichton constantly whines about how the Japanese are taking over the American economy. I appreciate some...

Date of Review:  Nov 11, 2003
The Bottom Line: "Rising Sun," by Michael Crichton, is not just a bunch of high class corporate warfare. It's an action packed thriller.
Review: "Rising Sun," by Michael Crichton, is not one of Crichton's famous scifi thrillers. It's about big corporations trying to destroy the competition, but it still has a lot of action, that's for sure.
The book starts off with LAPD special services...

Japan Good, US Bad

Date of Review:  Mar 9, 2001
The Bottom Line: Not classic Crichton, but still a good book.
Review: I just finished reading this book for the second time (with about 5 years in between readings) and I was quite dissapointed. Crichton tells the story of two special LAPD cops that are designated as liasons to foreign nationals (mainly from Japan)...
