DVD-RAM discs have realized huge capacities of 4.7 GB/single-sided or 9.4 GB/double-sided, facilitating recording times as long as 240 minutes (4 hours) in standard mode and 720 minutes (12 hours) in long play mode, when used for video recording (with 9.4GB). Easy-to-use cartridge-type discs are protected from external influences such as fingerprints and dust.

Pros: Low price, good performance and reliability, sturdy construction

Cons: Cannot be played back in some players
