Product Description

A middle-aged spinster (Jane Fonda) decides to escape her cloistered New England life by taking a job as a governess in Mexico. There she falls in love with a passionate young general fighting in Pancho Villa's army, while at the same time finding herself drawn to a mysterious, aging American man. The American turns out to be the journalist Ambrose Bierce (Gregory Peck), who disappeared in Mexico in 1913. The three characters become enmeshed in a love triangle that plays itself out against the dramatic backdrop of the Mexican Revolution. Based on Carlos Fuentes' novel.

All About Jane: The Old Gringo

Date of Review:  Oct 6, 2009
The Bottom Line: A lame treatment of an exciting era and neglect of the one personality that would have made this movie worth watching. Sadly I cannot recommend this one.
Review: Old Gringo (1988)

This movie purports to tell the end of cynical journalist Ambrose Bierce (The Devil's Dictionary) but is actually Jane Fonda's coming out party, where she changed her screen portrayals from sex kitten to left wing...

The Old Gringo needs an enema

The Bottom Line: Put the Old Gringo out of his misery...
Review: Ay, the sacrifices Manic Hispanic makes in order to review films for you. Putting aside my better judgment, throwing out any sense of pride, and plugging my nose; I dove into Old Gringo last night and came away feeling predictably embarassed for...
