Rugged die cast body, all joints sealed by O-rings gaskets, easy-to-handle and compact underwater camera that's made to withstand the pressure at 50 meters (160 feet). Aperture Priority automatic lets you set desired aperture and Nikonos V selects corresponding shutter speed. There's even a Manual mode for complete control.

A workhorse, tough and dependable

Other reviewers have suggested that users either love or hate this camera. I fall in the middle ground because I love and hate it. However, I don't dislike it for the same reasons as the other reviewers.

Living on past glory

The Bottom Line: Antiquated technology & user interface equate to a clumsy awkward, yet extremely expensive tool. Digital cameras specifically designed for UW use mean the demise of the product.
Review: Update Thu, Nov 15, 2001:
Nikon has discontinued the Nikonos-V underwater camera and all related accessories. Nikon apparently has no plans to manufacture a Nikonos-VI, or any other film-based underwater camera. It is unclear if Nikon's Nikonos...
