This magical film follows the stunning Tilo (played by Bollywood superstar Aishwarya Rai) as she arrives in San Francisco to work in a spice shop. What draws in customers, however, isn't Tilo's fragrant merchandise, but her miraculous ability to recognize their desires. Harnessing the power of her mystical spices, Tilo helps her grateful customers fulfill their dreams. But when a dashing architect (Dylan McDermott) enters the shop, Tilo is forced to deal with own tumultuous passions.

Average but intriguing film in _Mistress of Spices_

The Bottom Line: Full of squandered potential, this film turned out to be middling rather than a passionate tale about choices. Great for Aishwarya Rai fans, but little else.
Review: I've always enjoyed films that let me explore a new culture or two, and this adaptation of Chitra Divakaruni's novel, Mistress of Spices, was just such an opportunity.

The Bottom Line: Strictly for fans of Aishwarya Rai, who speaks English throughout the film. And for fans of grumpy chiles.
Review: Coincidentally enough, Tilo is named for the sesame seed, the spice of nourishment. From an early age, Tilo has been special, being gifted with second sight, although that wasn't enough to prevent a fatal tragedy from befalling her family. Tilo ends...

Romantic Comedy DVD - Director Paul Mayeda Berges adapts author Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni magic realist tale about an enchanting Indian orphan who has leaned to harness the magical properties of spices.
