Garmin GPS 178 sounder

Pros: Accurate, resonably priced, sonar and gps together give more neat options

Cons: To get better gps detail, you have to buy additional data cards

Review: I bought one of these units (the non color version). I find it very helpful especially when riding my boat at night to have GPS unit. It is easy to mark good fishing spots with this unit. I think the sonar portion is really good as well which helps ...

It would be great if it worked

Pros: Beautiful charting and GPS

Cons: Not ready for prime time.

The Bottom Line: Avoid until Garmin solves the shallow depth problems or count on buying another sounder to handle this.

Review: Watching the Bluewater charts integrated with the GPS is nothing short of amazing. From where I launch my boat the channel that I have to run my boat through is unmarked, maybe 40 feet wide at the max and about 1 mile long. Depths can be less than 1 foot ...
