Fox Bat Strategy: A Tribute to Dave Jaurequi isn't a typical tribute album, where other performers cover the artist's work, usually after he or she is dead. Instead, this concise set of pretty, lonely songs was recorded in 1994, two years before Jaurequi passed away at age 50. David Lynch brought the guitarist together with the band that recorded the Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me soundtrack and had Jaurequi sing the director's deceptively simple lyrics. Like the Fire Walk with Me music, Fox Bat Strategy is rooted in the '50s, half teen idol romance ("Almost an Angel") and half beatnik cool ("Rollin' Down with You"). Unlike any of the Twin Peaks music, however, these songs feel loose and lively, and arguably more like a true collaboration than the soundtracks did.
