Nice features, HD is lacking but improving

The Bottom Line: Will suffice but we think Directv is a better product and we can no longer recommend Dish services.
Review: Since the advent of mini dishes, I've enjoyed the liberation from noisy cable and over the air antennas. I started with Dishes 400 series, worked my way up to their DVR and am now enjoying the HD DVR VIP 612.

Uses as much power as a full-size refrigerator!

Review: I measured it with my Kill-A-Watt meter and this satellite box uses 40 watts minimum whether it's on or off. In a year that's 350 kWhr. A Kenmore model #44123 16.7 cu. ft. refrigerator uses that same amount according to the EPA's Energy Star web...
