Product Description

CRIMES AND MISDEMEANORS is Woody Allen's most mature, most profound film. Martin Landau plays Judah Rosenthal, a successful ophthalmologist having an affair with Dolores (Anjelica Huston), who is threatening to reveal their relationship unless Judah commits to her and leaves his wife. He admits his sin to Ben (Sam Waterston), a friend, a patient, and a learned rabbi who is losing his eyesight but not his faith. Judah turns to his brother Jack, who is connected to the mob and can make Dolores disappear. Allen plays Cliff Stern, a documentary filmmaker who accepts an assignment to film his pompous, successful brother-in-law, Lester (Alan Alda), a comedy star; both Cliff and Lester fall for Hallie Reed (Mia Farrow), a producer involved in the documentary. Allen the director brings all the characters together in a fabulous mix of comedy and drama, deceit and delight. Adultery and Murder AKA "Crimes and Misdemeanors"

Date of Review:  Aug 10, 2005
The Bottom Line: Good story showing the struggle of morality and rationalization done with a comic flair.
Review: This Woody Allen film (from 1989) has got to be one of his best. I admit that I hadn't seen one of his films since the old Annie Hall days. For some reason I had skipped Crimes and Misdemeanors when it first came out. Well, just lately I watched it...

Crimes and Misdemeanors (1989)

Date of Review:  Mar 19, 2003
The Bottom Line: One of the best films of the 1980s. For Allen, his second best film of the decade.
Review: Woody Allen is always able to get great performances from his cast, but perhaps the best performance ever given by a male lead is the one turned in by Martin Landau in 1989's Crimes and Misdemeanors (the worst being, hands down, Kenneth Branaugh's...

Crimes and Misdemeanors: Like or not, the eyes have it

Date of Review:  Jun 21, 2003
The Bottom Line: So why did I give this film I didn't like four stars? Landau, Alda, Orbach and Waterson, that's why. Definately not for Allen.
Review: Every now and then, a film pops out of the Hollywood mill that sparks interest and critical acclaim. The critics raved over this one, Woody Allen's fans raved over it, and it made a decent showing at the box office.

It's an intriguing...
