Personnel includes: Frank Sinatra (vocals); Nelson Riddle, Billy May (arranger, conductor). Recorded between 1953 and 1960. Includes liner notes by Bruce Springsteen and Pete Hamill. Digitally remastered using 24-bit technology by Bob Norberg (Capitol Mastering). Sinatra's years on the Capitol label (1953-60) were great years. His voice had matured into a powerful and poignant instrument; his sense of swing was infallible; and he was blessed with an innovative and sophisticated arranger, Nelson Riddle, whose charts fit Sinatra like a beautiful suit. This one-disc compilation of 20 songs includes many classics: "I've Got You Under My Skin," "You Make Me Feel So Young," "The Lady Is a Tramp," In The Wee Small Hours of the Morning," and "One For My Baby (And One More For the Road)." The packaging is attractive (with some great photos of Sinatra) and the digital re-mastering was done right. Also included are updated versions of songs Sinatra sang in his earlier years ("Oh! Look At Me Now," and "Night and Day... Minimize

Got the Music World on a String

by   DrFaustus , top reviewer in Music at Epinions.com ,  Aug 3, 2008
Pros: classic pop standards back when Sinatra was at the top of his game
Cons: none at all
The Bottom Line: Fifty years later, these are still some of the finest pop recordings ever made.
Review: There's no doubt that we're living in a time of unprecedented access to musicians and the works they create. Internet radio stations, television commercial deals, MP3 blogs, street teams, MySpace pages, promo disks given away with magazines, music-based ...

Is it the Best POP album of 2000 ???

by   4-1-1 ,  Mar 28, 2001
Pros: beautiful sound - digitally remastered with no hisses or pops. Great hit songs.
Cons: None. These are some of Sinatra's best songs from 1953-1960
The Bottom Line: Thank You CAPITOL for taking some of the best 40+ year old stuff Sinatra recorded and cleaning it up. This is an ESSENTIAL recording for all music fans.
Review: On this date, March 28, one year ago, one of the greatest pop albums of the year 2000 was released: Classic Sinatra.

Growing up, I was never a big fan of Frank Sinatra's music. He just seemed too old, and his music was just too slow...
