Available in two models, 2WD and AWD, the Astro Passenger Van enters this model year with several changes. The standard automatic transmission receives a tow/haul feature, while the 4.3L V-6 engine gains enhanced engine performance and fuel economy. Two new exterior colors are Pewter and Dark Toreador Red. As always, the Astro Passenger Van is equipped with many safety features including child seat tether anchors, a child safety lock on the sliding door, and a theft deterrent system. A new seven-tumbler key cylinder has been added in order to provide greater security. Options on the Passenger Van include rear air conditioning, an AM/FM stereo with cassette and CD player, and running boards. Four-wheel anti-lock brakes remain standard.

Good Used Car Buy if You Need a Hauler

Pros: Low market price, roomy, comfortable. Reasonably good mileage for what it is.
Cons: Would use more fuel with 4WD. Expect more repairs as it ages.
The Bottom Line: Recommended for light hauling. Out of favor now, can be bought for a low price. Reasonably good fuel economy with large V-6 for such a large vehicle.

Review: Bought a used 2001 Astro passenger van (rear wheel drive) in 2007. Dealer was thrilled to sell it, at a low price. In 2008, you can probably get an even better deal.

It is a truck for us, for hauling and light towing, not a daily driver...

Ah.... Chevy can still do something right.

Pros: Good handling for a minivan. Tons of room inside.
Cons: Well, it is a minivan.
The Bottom Line: If you are looking for something to haul stuff (or kids) in, this is a good van for you, plenty of room, and very convenient.

Don't Mess With Success

Pros: Reliability, value, ease of operation, huge interior, AWD
Cons: fuel economy with AWD, questionable safety scores, Ice Age design, quality of materials
The Bottom Line: This car is a great alternative to car-based minivans for the buyer interested in durability, reliability, and the most amount of space for the money.
