Product Description

Written by the son of missionaries for his own children, THE SHACK has become an unforeseen bestseller. Riding a wave of both rapturous word-of-mouth praise and sharp criticism, it has become a significant novel in the Christian community. The premise is simple and powerful, like a tale from the Bible itself: Mackenzie Phillips, a former seminary student, is crippled with grief over the brutal abduction and murder of his young daughter four years ago. When he receives a summons to the mountain shack where his daughter was killed, he is suspicious, but eventually discovers that he has been called to a private meeting with God, with each part of the Holy Trinity appearing in different guises. Author William P. Young uses novelistic devices to make Christian values easily understood and, more significantly, deeply felt. However, his book has stirred up controversy in its casual and modernized depiction of God, and Young's occasional disregard for Church orthodoxy.

The Shack a Christian fiction book worth checking out

Date of Review:  Dec 18, 2008
The Bottom Line: Very intuitive book worth reading.
Review: The Shack by Wm. Paul Young is an extraordinary work of Christian fiction. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. However, it is full of depressing moments and makes one think. Young writes the story about Mack in a narrative form. He is writing it...

Pros
Well written with nice plot twists.
Cons
None for me.

God is a woman who lives in a shack? Sketchy.

Date of Review:  Jan 1, 2009
The Bottom Line: Basically, a drawn-out metaphor with a little bit of action thrown in. Life-changing or appalling--that's up to you.
Review: While camping with three of his children on the western coast, Mack's greatest fear comes true: his daughter Missy has gone missing. No amount of searching, no helpful police officers can find her, and nothing can console Mack in his desperation...

The Shack by Wm. Paul Young
5/5 stars
I thought this fiction book was a good read. I was drawn into the story line quickly and it held my interest through the end. It was a quick read for me, but it is a book I would like to read again and take some time to slow down and take it all in. It also raises a lot of questions and I think it is a great book for a discussion group.I have friends with very differing opinions than mine. A few think it is poorly written and disagree with with how it represents God. I take it as a great story. It is fiction. Pros: Story drew me in quickly, it held my interest

My review of the Novel The Shack Pros: Interesting, thought provoking Cons: too many liberties taken

The Shack is a conterversial book making us take a look at what we think God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit may be like.
5/5 stars
In a world where religioon seems to grow increasingly irrelevant THE SHACK wrestles with the timeless question, Where is God in a world so filled with unspeakable pain? The answers Mack gets will astound you and perhaps transform you as much as it did him. Pros: thought provoking, fun to read

Heart-warming, emotional read
4/5 stars
Young puts character into the Holy Trinity. Do you know how hard this is? I consider myself a man, but i felt like crying throughout the book. It's easy to read. After finishing this, i just sat and thought about the things said and they way they are displayed. I'm sorry if that's vague, but i can't give it away to you. If you are hurting, if you have pain...read this book and shed some light on it. Pros: quick read, emotional, great writing style
